Are they looking to make a change because they are ambitious and wanting to grow? Or are they looking to make a change because they were not happy in their last role? As you can see, those two different reasons add a lot of color to the picture that you are trying to see.

What is the longest job that you held? Why did you stay there as long as you did?
Regardless of the position that you are looking to fill, asking interview questions to ask potential employees that figure out how stable the applicant is are helpful. This question helps you to get an idea of that and also can help you to figure out what can help you to keep the employee.

What was the shortest job that you held? Why did you not stay there very long?
This question hits at the other end of the spectrum from the last interview questions to ask potential employees. Try to find out if the applicant ever went somewhere and walked away or was let go fairly quickly.

Tell me about a time where you had to learn a lot of new information in a short period of time.
Any time when you hire a new employee, they are going to have to learn something new. Some positions are worse than other and if your position is going to include a decent learning curve, it can be good to try to figure out how the applicant will handle that.

This question tries to identify the applicant’s ability to learn new information by getting them to share some details on when they had to do that in the past.

Tell me about a time where you disagreed with a manager and how you handled that.
We all have had times where we have disagreed with managers or colleagues. It is not bad to disagree, but what can be important is how someone handles disagreements.

If you can ask interview questions to ask potential employees that help you to identify how the applicant deals with people in difficult situations, you will have get some helpful information.

What does your ideal job look like?
You know what the job you want to fill is like, and you may think that there are some very good things about the position. But that does not mean that the applicant will see those things as fair, good, or desirable. As a result, get the applicant to tell you what they want in a job in their own words or ideas.
